National academic network

IIAP started in 1994 ASNET-AM - the Armenian academic scientific research network. The network infrastructure was funded by the Armenian Government, three private foundations and NATO. In 2000 the Armenian Research and Education Networking Association Foundation (ARENA) was founded by three universities and three institutes of the National Academy of Sciences.
The network connects by radio links (640 kbps and 2 Mbps) and fibre 50 scientific, research and educational organisations through 17 main nodes in 4 cities. International connectivity is provided through the "Virtual Silk Highway".
