In 1998 BIHARNET (Academic Research Network of Bosnia and Herzegovina) was established by the university of Banja Luka,
the two Mostar universities, the university of Sarajevo and the university of Tuzla with funding from the government of Slovenia (!).
The backbone of BIHARNET links nodes in Banja Luka, Bihac, Bijeljina, Foca-Srbinje, Lukavica, Mostar, Sarajevo, Tuzla and Zenica
at speeds of 256 Kbps upto 2 Mbps. International connectivity is provided through a 2 Mbps connection to the Slovenian ARNES network.
