Supercomputing facilities for the academia

The Institute for Parallel Processing (IPP) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia has a Cray Origin 2000.

National academic network

In 2003 a new national academic network organisation has been established named IST Foundation. It is financed by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunication, the Ministry of Education and Science and the United Nations Development Programme. The budget in 2004 is € 0.6 million.
The academic network links the universities in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Rousse and all institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Link speeds are 128 Kbps up to 2 Mbps. There is a 155 Mbps connection to GÉANT and a 34 Mbps link to SEREEN. The network is operated by CLPP.

National GRIDs

The Bulgarian Grid Consortium (BgGrid) has been established by IPP and the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy. A 12 processor cluster is planned at IPP and two smaller at other sites.
