National academic network

AMREJ (Yugoslav Academic and Research Network) is financed by the Federal Secretariat for Development and Science, the Ministry of Science, Technologies and Development and the Ministry of Education and Sport of Serbia and the Ministry of Science and Education of Montenegro. AMREJ is managed by a Board of Directors consisting of the directors of the University Computing Centers of all Universities in Yugoslavia and is operated by the Belgrade University Computing Center. The budget in 2004 is € 1.1 million.
The backbone is star-shaped around Belgrade and has links to Novi Sad (1 Gbps), Nis (155 Mbps), University of Montenegro (2Mbps), Kragujevac (2Mbps) and Krusevac (2Mbps). More than 150 educational and research institutions are connected to AMREJ.
International connectivity is through a 34 Mbps link to GRNET.
